We already know that Jedi Survivor is a bona fide sequel, but is it crucial that you have to play Fallen Order before Jedi Survivor?

There are games where the prequels and sequels are directly related to each other, and there are games where they’re set at completely different times and don’t require players to play one to understand the other. Because of this, many fans wanting to jump in Jedi: Survivor has been wondering whether it’s important to play Jedi: Fallen Order first. If you’re one such future player of Jedi: Survivor then worry not as we’ll be answering this question for you right here.

Is Jedi Survivor a direct sequel to Fallen Order

Yes, Jedi: Survivor is indeed a direct sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order. Because of this, we’d say it’s not crucial that you play Fallen Order first (as all modern games cater to new players) but it will certainly make more sense and make the adventure more enjoyable and fulfilling if you play the first game first.

After all, Fallen Order introduced a bunch of original characters who haven’t ever been even mentioned in other Star Wars media. Therefore, you can’t completely rely on your existing Star Wars knowledge for this game, since playing Fallen Order is the only way to truly understand every character and their ambitions.

Of course, there’s also the question of whether you’ll be able to understand the story at all if you don’t play Fallen Order first. Seeing as how Fallen Order has a bunch of flashbacks and information dumping that’s important to understand the overall mission of Cal and his crew, without playing the prequel, means you may struggle a little to keep up. By this we mean you’ll simply be moving forward in the story without actually understanding major events completely and getting important references from the first game which might be important to either the players or the characters.

However, this isn’t to say that the game won’t have a ‘catch up’ montage, option, or cutscene for new players to engage with – just like God of War Ragnarok did.
