While many fans are looking forward to playing co-op with their friends in Dead Island 2 they have to wonder how the serves for the game work. If Dead Island 2 has dedicated servers, it changes the way that some players will look at the game. Since at some point in the future, the game will be unplayable. Let’s go over if Dead Island 2 has dedicated servers or not.

Are Dead Island 2 Servers Dedicated?

Luckily for most, Dead Island 2 servers are not dedicated but instead locally hosted. So whoever is the host of a co-op game will have all the other players connecting to their system or console. While this is good for the long-term enjoyment of Dead Island 2, you will want to make sure the host always has good internet.

If the host has bag ping or a slow internet connection, the other players will constantly lag while playing. If you notice this happening with your friends and the host is fine, you might want to consider changing who the host is.

It should also be noted that since the servers are locally hosted, players on the PS4 and Xbox One will be unable to host a game and can only connect to others. This makes sense since the systems are quite old and almost didn’t receive a version of the game.

Some players may be wondering why dedicated servers are not the best option to have and the answer is quite simple. Dedicated servers mean that sometime in the future, Dead Island 2 will be unplayable.

If the servers for Dead Island 2 ever go down, you can no longer play the game with friends or at all if the game needs a constant server connection. This is something we are starting to feel the effects of with older games like Halo 2’s Xbox 360 servers shutting down.

So while having dedicated servers can be nice for gameplay between friends. It does mean that the game will eventually be unplayable at some point in the future.
