Best starting abilities in Final Fantasy 16

Final Fantasy 16’s starting abilities are pretty powerful. You get immediately get access to several abilities that you can learn by spending ability points. While the game is very story-focused, you will want these abilities to keep yourself safe:

  • Charged Magic – This ability allows you to charge up your flames and blast a foe with a more powerful fire attack. Great for dealing with distant enemies during the prologue.
  • Burning Blade – Allows you to coat your sword in flames and slam it down. This ability can be used to parry attacks and deals significant damage.
  • Lunge – Used to quickly close the gap between you and an enemy when Phoenix Shift is unavailable.
  • Stomp – Use this ability to jump on an opponent and leap into the air. Can be used with abilities like Downthrust to deal a lot of damage.
  • Downthrust – Allows you to slam your sword to the ground from the air. Can be used in combination with Stomp and Rising Flames.
  • Swift Recovery – Allows you to swiftly recover from getting knocked back. Very useful during boss fights but not used as much against the goblins at the start of the game.

These abilities are some of the best that Clive Rosfield has at his disposal at the start of the game. Final Fantasy XVI has many more abilities that you will get access to once you have completed the prologue.

Those who play the demo on PlayStation will get the chance to try out some of the other abilities in the game by playing the challenge game mode.
