There are plenty of bosses that you will fight throughout Final Fantasy 16 with one of the first ones being the Morbol fight that takes place during the prologue. The Morbol boss fight isn’t the most difficult in the game but it can be pretty tricky to avoid its bad breath and sweeping tentacles if you aren’t prepared.

This monster will take you a little while to take down. Be sure to stay patient and use Clive’s abilities to your advantage. This guide will show you how to beat the Morbol boss in Final Fantasy 16.

How to beat the Morbol boss battle in Final Fantasy 16

Morbol is Final Fantasy 16’s version of the Malboro that appears at the end of the Stillwind section of the prologue. This boss has a range of attacks to watch out for but it will start with simple tentacle attacks.

Get in close to the Morbol and bait out its tentacle attack. It will either do a slam or a sweep. When you see either attack, dodge to the left or right of the creature and attack it from behind. This will allow you to get a good number of strikes in before it turns around.

If you see the Morbol breathe in deep, get to either side of the creature because it will spew out noxious gas that will heavily damage you and apply status effects. During the first part of the fight, you will only need to deal with these two attacks. When the Morbol has lost about a fourth of its health, it will go underground.

The Morbol will emerge and start a cinematic strike opportunity. No matter where you, Tyler, and Wade are, you will get pulled into the Morbol’s mouth. Don’t worry, you will survive and instead, jump on its head. Watch out for the opportunity to hit the square button on your PlayStation controller when the screen flashes blue. This will allow you to perform the strike.

After the cinematic, you continue the fight like before. Stick to the Morbol’s side and get in as many hits as possible. During this phase of the fight, watch out for when the Morbol raises up, during this time, it will use its fog attack. Dodge back and start attacking from a distance with magic until the fog dissipates.

The Morbol will also start spewing sludge from its mouth. This attack is easy to avoid and shouldn’t pose much danger. When the boss has about a fourth of its health remaining, it will go underground once more for another cinematic move. This time it will be a dodge.

Pay attention during the cinematic and press the R1 button when the screen flashes red to avoid the attack. During the last part of the fight, the Morbol will use an ability called Wild Rage. During this time, back away from the creature and use ranged magic attacks and abilities to get more hits in.

When the Morbol settles down, close the gap and keep striking it until it falls.

Morbol boss attacks

There are multiple attacks that the boss has at its disposal. The following list is every attack that you need to watch out for:
