Final Fantasy 16 recently launched a demo on June 11, 2023, in which players could experience the gameplay and prologue of the latest installment of the Final Fantasy franchise. Thus they have wondered who the villain is.

In Final Fantasy 16, you may need the assistance of a helpful pup named Torgal, who will guide you with his Animal Instinct. You will also need the aid of a trusty steed, a Chocobo named Ambrosia. But first, follow this guide to find out who is the main villain in Final Fantasy 16.

Who is the main Villain in Final Fantasy 16?

The protagonist Clive Rosfield, the First Shield of Rosaria, will encounter a tragedy that will take his younger brother Joshua Rosfield’s life. It was believed that the villain is Ifrit through Clive Rofield because of the supposed death of Joshua. However, after Clive has destroyed the first Mothercrystal, he is met with the main villain Ultima.

Ultima is an avatar of the Fallen, an ancient civilization that has overused magic and thus caused the Blight on their world. As a result, Ultima is the one who created the world we know as Valisthea, the Mothercrystals, and humans. He made this world to birth the Mythos, who can control all Eikons. The Mythos is a perfect vessel for Ultima; within this host, he will restore the Fallen civilization.

Of course, there’s no way Ultima can do this alone. Two individuals will help Ultima accomplish his goals: Anabella Lesage, the Empress of The Holy Empire of Sanbreque. She was formerly known as Anabella Rosfiled, the Duchess of Rosaria, and Barnabas Tharmr, the King of Waloed. Of course, there are plenty of other villainous Dominants lurking in the world of Valisthea, which Clive must combat.

During the prologue, we see Clive awaken the Eikon power of Ifrit, as mentioned by Murdoch. This happens when Joshua is under stress, using the power of his Eikon Phoenix’s Flames; thus, this will accelerate Clive’s awakening. However, we also see Anabella’s dislike and discontent for Clive during and after the Night of Flames. We soon learn that Anabella is concerned with her social status, which leads her to marry Sylvestre Lesage, the Emperor of Sabreque.

Anabella would then have a son with Sylvester, Olivier Lesage. Olivier was then revealed to be a vessel of Ultima, and thus when slain, was shown to be nothing but aether.

How is Barnabas Tharmr a villain in Final Fantasy 16?

Barnabas Tharmr is a worshipper of Ultima. As a result, he is seeking to end all conflict by embracing Ultima’s goal of resetting life even though it will be at the cost of all life Valisthea. Due to this, he challenges Clive multiple times and encourages Hugo Kupka to overuse his power. However, he will meet his end at Clive’s hand and force him to absorb his Eikon. Doing so will lead Clive to become the Mythos that houses all power.
