There has always been much debate within gaming communities about the integrity of games that release remasters and rerelease old games instead of creating new ones. This is prominent in the Call of Duty community as the gameplay is ever-evolving.

Crossfire in Call of Duty MW2

A better place to start with this is asking if you enjoy Call of Duty for the advanced tactics, rapid-fire, and fast-evolving games or are you still playing for the nostalgia in hopes that they will bring back Airport and Rust? In a long thread in the r/CallOfDuty subreddit, there was a debate about how if certain maps were released today that players would “absolutely s–t on” them.

The thread focuses mainly on Crossfire from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare but the point about players looking back at old maps with more distaste is an interesting concept.

Call of Duty is one of the fastest evolving gameplay styles, with the constantly updating and adding game modes to MW2 and Warzone 2, it’s no surprise at some point Infinity Ward would introduce old maps under the guise of nostalgia, but it does that make them playable for fans who are now at the highest level on competitive gameplay?

The other commenters are divided on bringing back older maps and remastering them with user RobertXD96 commenting that “Standards and expectations are different now than they were 16 years ago, go figure.”

Others such as Lazelucas commented, “Even though this isn’t my favourite map, it wasn’t all that bad. Still had a strong 3 lane layout with interesting engagement options. COD 4 also didn’t hold your hand with stupid gadgets, op aim to assist and optimised engagement based matchmaking like MW II.”

What do you think? It seems a lot of modern Call of Duty fans believe that remastered Call of Duty maps and games wouldn’t play the same compared to the way they did in the past. If older game maps were remastered which would you like to see? Or are you a bigger fan of new settings and locations in every game?
