Every Legend of Zelda game in the franchise is different. Thanks to the reincarnation system, Link and Zelda often appear at different ages in each game. Because of this, it can be difficult to pinpoint the exact age of the characters and their allies.

Luckily, there are some clues that can be pulled from Breath of the Wild to help determine how old Zelda is in the new game. So how old is Zelda in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

What age is Zelda in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

To determine how old Zelda is, we have to jump back to Breath of the Wild. Since Tears of the Kingdom is a sequel, we can assume it takes place within a few years of the ending of Breath of the Wild.

In Breath of the Wild, one of the memories states that Zelda is 17. There isn’t much context in the game other than this. Link slept for 100 years during the Age of Calamity. Zelda used her magic to prevent time from continuing. Judging from this, we could assume that Link and Zelda are both around 17 or 117 depending on your perception of time and due to the shrine‘s ageing delay.

As shown in an earlier video, Link and Zelda will discover Ganon’s corpse, leading us to believe that it has been a few years. Thanks to this we can assume that both characters will be anywhere from 17 to 20 years old or 117 to 120 if you want to tack on the extra century. That is all based on the info from BotW and the Tears of the Kingdom trailers.

Parts of the campaign of Tears of the Kingdom may enlighten us as to what age our heroes actually are but there is currently no defined age.

Thanks to new abilities, you can now craft large vehicles, makeshift boats, and diverse devices. The game will be filled with challenging puzzles, intimidating foes, and devastating enemy attacks. For being 117, Link and Zelda certainly are very spry.
