There are many ways to upgrade your weapons in Diablo 4, which will give you extra stat bonuses and increase the item level. One of these ways is to Add Sockets to your existing items and place Gems into these items. Do you want to know how to accomplish this feat? This guide will detail how to add Sockets to gear in Diablo 4.

How do you add Sockets to Gear in Diablo 4?

When upgrading your weapons, you’re always looking for extra slots or sockets you can use to add attributes. To add more Sockets to your armor, you must go to the Jeweler. The Jeweler, Kratia, is in the Fractured Peaks within the Desolate Highlands.

  • Once at the Jeweler, enter to store and interact with Kratia.
  • At the top of the crafting box, you will see four tabs.
  • Select the third tab that says Add Socket.
  • Now, click and drag the item to the receive Socket box.
  • It will then show you a preview of what the Upgraded item will look like.
  • To add Sockets, it will cost you Scattered Prism and Gold.

You can obtain Scattered Prisms by defeating a World Boss. However, note that you can place a maximum number of sockets on each item. You will have one to two sockets per gear slot, so make the socketed item count! You can add Sockets to these items:

  • Chest
  • Pants
  • Rings
  • Amulet
  • Helm
  • Weapons

How to unlock the Jeweler in Diablo 4

Before you can add sockets to your gear, you must complete a quest to unlock the Jeweler. This will be a Priority Quest that will trigger as soon as you reach Lv 20 in Diablo 4. To obtain the Crude Gems, you must be Lv 15 or higher; to make Chipped Gems, you must be Lv 20. These Crude Gems are:

  • Crude Amethyst
  • Chipped Amethyst
  • Crude Emerald
  • Chipped Emerald
  • Crude Ruby
  • Chipped Ruby
  • Crude Topaz
  • Chipped Topaz
  • Crude Sapphire
  • Chipped Sapphire
  • Crude Diamond
  • Chipped Diamond
  • Crude Skull
  • Chipped Skull

In addition, at the Jeweler, you can upgrade your Gems, giving them different stat and adding them to your Socketed gear. There are seven types of Gems you can obtain; these can be either Crude or Chipped. Each Gem will have a different ability or stat on your weapons, armor, or jewelry. Also, to craft Chipped Gems, you will need the Crude version of the Gem in addition to Gold.

How to unsocket gems in Diablo 4

Unsocketing Gems in Diablo IV is simple, all you need to do is go back to Kratia in Kyovashad and interact with her, then follow these steps:

  • Select the third tab that says unsocket
  • Click and drag the item you want to the pliers icon
  • Kratia will unsocket the gem for you

That’s it! The Jeweler Kratia won’t charge you for unsocketing gems, so you’re free to do so to your heart’s content. Unsocketing Gems allow you to add different Gems to a piece of equipment you want to keep your hands on, so you can use better Gems in its place.
