The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a lot like Breath of the Wild. Being a direct sequel, the games will obviously share similarities and combat is one of them. Just like in the previous Nintendo Switch title, you will need to dodge enemy attacks if you want to stay safe in combat.

Combat is a complex beast that will take a little while to master in TotK. Luckily, you can easily get used to it by practicing. This guide will show you how to dodge in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How to dodge in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Combat is quite simple in Tears of the Kingdom. You can jump around easily while in combat, but to dodge, you need to lock on first. Start by holding down the ZL Button. This will cause you to hold up your shield and lock onto the enemy.

Simply having your shield up will cause you to guard against enemy attacks. You can also get a perfect guard if you perform the right maneuver. To dodge, you need to press the Y Button when an enemy attacks. You will dodge in the direction that you point the left analog stick.

If you dodge at the correct moment, time will slow and you can press X to perform a Flurry Rush melee attack.

Just like with normal dodging, you will need to lock onto a foe first. Once locked on, wait for the foe to attack. Move the left stick back and press the Y Button. This will cause Link to perform a backflip.

Backflips are great for avoiding sweeping attacks. Make sure you dodge in the correct direction or you will get hurt. You can also use this method to dodge arrows.
