Learning about the existence of shiny beasts in Hogwarts Legacy is exciting to see, so we’re going to show you how find them. It feels like spotting an unknown species or rare Pokémon out in the wild, probably because it basically is. We’ll be talking about how to identify shiny beasts and how to confirm you’ve really rescued one once it’s placed in your inventory.

You’ll unlock the ability to catch (or rather, rescue) wild beasts once you’ve discovered the Room of Requirement in story quest #17. This is because you’ll unlock the Nab-Sack which is required for holding and rescuing beasts, as well as the Vivarium for keeping them in and tending to.
Finding shiny beasts in Hogwarts Legacy
It’s hard to know right now how commonly shiny beasts spawn in the world compared to their non-shiny regular old counterparts. That hasn’t stopped players from encountering them though, so they aren’t as incredibly rare as you may think.
You’ll find shiny beasts out in the wild, just like any other kind of beast. Beasts are most commonly found in ‘Beast Dens’ which are represented by a claw icon on the map or minimap. A shiny beast is a obviously a rarer occurrence, and you can keep clearing out regular beasts (and even sell them) in the hope that a shiny one will spawn in it’s place the next time you’re around the area.
How to know you’ve rescued a shiny beast
You’ll know for sure if the beast you’ve caught is the shiny kind you were looking for by checking it out in your inventory. Under the beasts subcategory, you’ll find all of your currently held beasts. By comparing the two images below, you can see an example of a regular vs shiny Puffskein. The shiny Puffskein has a shiny emblem next to it’s name in the description to differentiate it.

How to spot a shiny beast
Luckily for you, there’s no need to go around collecting every beast and hoping for the best. There are ways of telling if you’ve encountered a shiny beast just from the look of them. On the flip side, the difference can be minimal. To add to that, some shiny beasts are more obvious that others, causing some real confusion if you come across something you haven’t seen before.
The best way to spot a shiny beast is to familiarize yourself with how the regular beast looks. If you find them together in packs, it becomes much more obvious if a shiny one is among them. A small difference in color is the main feature you’ll notice and that’s the best way of spotting a shiny beast.
