The long awaited sequel to Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is upon us. Releasing on May 12, 2023 for Nintendo Switch, Tears of the Kingdom is the latest Zelda game that is generating a ridiculous amount of hype. Fan theories are popping up left and right, and everybody wants to know who is returning in the game and what new characters are coming. Will Demise the puppet master be a part of Tears of the Kingdom?

Is Demise going to be in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

The short answer is technically yes. The long answer is a bit more complicated:

Demise, once defeated in The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword, curses Link and Zelda to be followed by his reincarnation for all of time. Ganondorf is that reincarnation. Ganondorf, also known as the King of Evil has been shown off in many trailers and has been confirmed to be in the game. Since this Ganondorf is the villain, we can assume he is yet another reincarnation of the Demon King Demise.

Demise’s first and only true appearance in the Zelda series was in Skyward Sword, released 2011. However, as his reincarnation as Ganondorf, or Calamity Ganon as he was known in Breath of the Wild, he has appeared in many Zelda titles.

Is anyone else in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

A few other assets from The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword have been confirmed to be in Tears of the Kingdom, as well as a few features and locations from it will be present as well:

  • Fi, the Spirit of the Master Sword, who spoke briefly in Breath of the Wild
  • The stamina bar introduced in Skyward Sword and present in Breath of the Wild
  • Floating islands for Link to explore reminiscent of Skyloft from Skyward Sword

All of these characters, assets and locations can be found in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom which will retail for $69.99 / £59.99.
