In Jagged Alliance 3, you must help the country of Grand Chien fight back against the paramilitary group known as the Legion. In the game, you will hire various mercenaries with their best traits, stats, and abilities to help you win the war.

Each merc has various levels of wisdom, agility, and dexterity that will help determine how powerful they are in combat. Mercs like Livewire, Wolf, Fox, Steroid, Vicki, Igor, and Magic each have their own traits, perks, and abilities that make them useful recruits for your squad.

If you want to take your shot against the Legion accurately, you will want the best mercs and the best perks to aid you in combat. A merc is more than their combat abilities, their traits play a big role in what they can accomplish. What are the best traits in Jagged Alliance 3?

What are the best traits in Jagged Alliance 3?

There are some great traits that the mercs can have that will help during combat and when exploring Grand Chien. Here are some of the best in the game:

  1. Optimist
  2. Ambidextrous
  3. Stealthy
  4. Heavy Weapons
  5. Teaching

Here is a little about why each of these traits is so good:

Optimist

Optimism means that the character has a chance to prevent morale loss for the squad. Morale plays a big role when it comes to perks that grant bonus damage and some that cause panic in enemy forces.

The following characters have the Optimist trait:

  • MD
  • Kalyna
  • Livewire
  • Scully

Ambidextrous

Another combat-focused trait is Ambidextrous. This trait allows the merc to have better accuracy while dual-wielding melee weapons. It is perfect for when you want someone to go wild in melee combat with melee attacks.

The following characters have the Ambidextrous trait:

  • Fox
  • Meltdown
  • Vicki
  • Tex

Stealthy

What better way to conserve your HP than to not get caught? The Stealthy trait increases the merc’s talent for stealth, allowing them to get caught less. It also increases their chance of getting an instakill from stealth kills.

The following characters have the Stealthy trait:

  • Mouse
  • Igor
  • Thor
  • Magic
  • Reaper
  • Shadow

Heavy Weapons

Do you prefer to use heavy weapons over rifles or explosives? The Heavy Weapons trait allows mercs to attack and setup heavy weapons with less of an AP cost. This is perfect for characters that don’t want to waste time and AP their weapons loaded and ready.

The following characters have the Heavy Weapons trait:

  • Grizzly
  • Meltdown
  • Grunty
  • Gus
  • Fauda

Teaching

The Teaching trait grants the entire squad extra XP for completing operations. While it is nice to increase your attributes the old-fashioned way, it never hurts to get a bonus for completing tasks that you should be doing anyway.

The following characters have the Teaching trait:

  • Fox
  • MD
  • Wolf
  • Buns
  • Raider
  • Hitman
  • Len
