Is Lords of the Fallen a remake or a sequel? The new dark fantasy RPG created by Hexworks and publisher CI Games has many fans confused. Is it actually a continuation of the story? This soulslike game is very similar to past games in the genre like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Elden Ring.

Thanks to difficult combat and intense gameplay, Lords of the Fallen is looking to be a true next-gen soulslike experience. Of course, there is still confusion around the title since the original game shares the same name.

There are many questions surrounding Lords of the Fallen such as if the game is only on Xbox Series X/S and PS5 and if the game can be played on Steam Deck. Enter the realms of Axiom and Umbral and see what this game has to offer. Is Lords of the Fallen a sequel or a remake?

Lords of the Fallen – Is it a sequel or a remake?

Lords of the Fallen stands as both a soft reboot of the series and a sequel. The confusion comes from developer CI Games relabeling the game as just Lords of the Fallen and not branding it with a reboot label or sequel number.

The 2023 Lords of the Fallen game is set over 1,000 years after the first game. The events of the original game involving Harkin have fallen into legend. Now, players are on a quest to stop the Demon God Adyr from resurrecting.

To do this, they will explore the land of Mournstead and use the Umbral Lamp to peer through both the realms of the living and the dead. Much like the original, this new title will feature a dark fantasy world, challenging combat, and immersive storytelling.

Lords of the Fallen will continue the tale from the original game by following one of the there endings. The ending that it follows has been kept secret but we do know that Adyr is returning and it is up to you to stop him.
