In MLB The Show 23, there are really three distinct game modes: Diamond Dynasty, Road to the Show (also known as RTTS), and Franchise mode. In Franchise mode, you can run an MLB team. In Diamond Dynasty, you collect cards to make a lineup and play missions or games. In RTTS, you control your player as you work your way up to the majors.

These game modes do not cross over very often, but it is known to happen from time to time. XP earned in all modes helps Diamond Dynasty. Furthermore, program stars are a new feature in MLB The Show 23 that wasn’t there before. It bridges the gap between RTTS and Diamond Dynasty. Here’s what they are and how to earn them.

What are MLB the Show 23’s program stars in Road to the Show?

Program stars are a reward given for completing tasks in MLB the Show 23. This is exclusive to Road to the Show, but the rewards do not always apply to that mode. The prizes can include packs for Diamond Dynasty mode, gear for RTTS, stubs, and even player cards. They can also help your XP rewards path and get a program reward, which can be very helpful.

How do I get program stars in MLB The Show 23?

Program stars are rewarded for completing tasks that are given in-game in Road to the Show. These do not happen all the time, but scenarios will spring up where the game wants players to do something. When those tasks come up, there is usually one option that rewards program stars, while the others reward boosts for attributes.

For example, there may be a scenario where your RTTS player comes up to bat as the winning run. The tasks might include:

  • Hit a walk-off home run (Power boost, two program stars)
  •  Score the runner from second base (Clutch boost)
  •  Advance the runner with a contact swing (Contact boost)

Naturally, the hardest one is the task that rewards program stars. If you select the task and fail to complete it, you will not receive the rewards. There is no penalty for missing out, though. These can happen in Major League Baseball as well as in the minor leagues. In any RTTS gameplay event, program stars can be offered up, but it’s pretty random.

The stars function on a sort of battle pass, with more being granted to unlock better rewards. This is available to all players.
