Like the real-life sport, MLB the Show 23 has a ton of different statistics to view. When you’re playing in franchise mode, Road to the Show, and even Diamond Dynasty, there are a lot of different metrics that are useful and some of them end up being goals. Some statistics apply to different positions. For example, batting average doesn’t apply to a starting pitcher anymore. ERA generally doesn’t apply to an outfielder for the most part.

Saves is one of the more position-exclusive stats in the games. If you’re wondering how to accumulate them, whether to boost your player’s stats or complete a mission, here’s what you need to do.

How can I record a save in MLB the Show 23?

Saves are one stat that requires a very specific set of circumstances. Unlike a home run, a single, a strikeout, or most others, it requires several things to be true for one to be recorded. These are generally recorded by closers, or at least relief pitchers.

The first requirement for a save to be recorded is that it has to be done by the last pitcher in the game who is also not the starter. A starter throwing a complete game is not a save, and if someone enters after a reliever, that first pitcher can only record a hold- not a save.

Secondly, the game score must be within three runs. If it’s more than three runs, the tying run must be on base, at the plate, or on deck. That means a save can be recorded in MLB The Show 23 if it’s 4-0 with the bases loaded. If it’s 5-2, a save can be recorded without anyone on base.

So, in short, to record a save, players must bring in a relief pitcher while the score is within three runs and let them close out the game (hence the name, closer). In MLB the Show 23, most closers will probably record 30-35 saves across a full season. The elite ones get close to 50.
