NBA 2K23 just announced that it will be expanding it’s WNBA presence for next-gen consoles with a handful of new challenges and features they chose to add.

Amongst the latest add ons that will be featured in this next installment of NBA 2K, include all-new community goals, a playable All Star game and Commissioner’s Cup, game changes, new jerseys, and lots of rewards.

With the development of the WNBA growing at a fast pace, these new features will provide a greater community influence and an engaging experience that will give you the best taste we’ve ever had of what the WNBA is truly like.

Here’s a look at the key new additions we can expect to see in NBA 2K23.

The Community

The WNBA community will have an online progression format that will be oriented around what gamers can accomplish all together. Each season will provide six weekly goals that the community can work towards and will allow you to earn rewards based on how many of those goals everyone is able to achieve before the season ends. If the community is able to hit the collective goals within four of the six weeks available per season, everyone will receive a reward. 2K23 wanted to emphasize the importance of team work (which basketball is all about) and they achieved just that with this new feature.

The Rewards

As illustrated above in the tweet post by NBA 2K23 Leaks & Intel, you can see that part of the new rewards will include WNBA jerseys but will also entail of logos as well as Coach MyTeam cards. There will be 60 WNBA jerseys that 2K23 will be adding into the new game, spanning multiple seasons.

Game Changes

One big incentive NBA 2K23 will be bringing to the forefront of The WNBA Online mode, is the Game Changer status, something you can only achieve by putting in a lot of time to complete the community goal.

However, once you have the Game Changer status, you not only can give other community individuals Player Boosts, but you will also be able to unlock Team Takeover Boosts as well, including the following per NBA 2K23:

  • Helping Hand – Gift a percentage of your takeover actions to a teammate who needs help filling their bucket
  • Accelerator – Fill the takeover meter faster
  • Extender – This useful boost extends the duration a takeover is active
  • Resilience – Minimizes the effect of a negative action that would otherwise cause the meter to decrease

Contact Challenges

Another big feature that NBA 2K fans can be excited to try out, is contact challenges. What’s really neat about this is that previously, we’ve been able to connect with other WNBA All Stars, coaches, and legends alike that helped improve certain badge categories.

But now, those very same stars and coaches will be giving you challenges you can complete over the course of the season. They include teaming up with new players in Contact Workouts, long-term statistical goals, as well as circling certain games that will have specific goals for you to complete.

That said, the challenges you receive will get progressively harder. But with it, the rewards come as well, allowing you to earn Player Boosts and Historic Contacts. If you’re looking to polish your game and evolve with it, this will be a lot of fun to invest in.

Will The WNBA Online Mode Be Cross Platform?

The WNBA Online feature will only be available for next-gen consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X). For those that still own a PS4 or Xbox One, you will not have access to this new mode.
