NBA 2K24 is officially out, which means you can get control of your favorite NBA team and do whatever you want with them. If you’re playing an exhibition or as part of MyNBA, you can do a lot with your squad’s roster, including making your own lineups and substitutions. The latter are automatic (auto subs is always turned on), but you can also make manual substitutions and bench players if you need to. Here’s how.

How can I sub players in NBA 2K24?
Substituting players is something you can do during a timeout, or set up so that it takes place at the next dead ball. When a timeout is called, there is an option for you to “Be the Coach”. Do so, and it will bring up your lineup. From there, you can select a player on your starting five and replace them with a bench player. This is usually done because of fatigue.
You can also choose from a set lineup. The starting lineup is one thing, but you can set your own custom lineups as well as ones with specific attributes in mind. You can set a “Tall” lineup, which will feature the tallest players at the five positions. The “Shooting” lineup does the same with the best shooters.
A “Defense” lineup brings in the five best defenders, and so on and so forth. You can also set a custom five with whoever you’d like and quickly bring in that entire lineup during a timeout. You can put your five best scorers, or your five favorite players. It’s up to you. There can be 6th man lineups, a closing lineup, and more.
Before a timeout is called, you can pause the game and make substitutions there. A whole new lineup can be ready to go by the next dead ball. In the coach settings, you can do everything above while it’s paused. You can also do this while the gameplay is active, but it distracts from the game. If you’re playing a CPU, it doesn’t matter to pause it and take your time.
2K features a new substitution engine, but if your lineup is experiencing scoring droughts, you can easily sub in a lineup on your own. The new system is good, but it’s not as adaptive as a person can be. It also prioritizes keeping one’s best player on the floor, which can run them out of energy.
NBA 2K24 is out on new gen consoles PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S. It’s also available for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
