Star Wars: Jedi Survivor is finally here – with gamers around the world all set with their preloads as the official release time draws ever closer. While protagonist Cal Kestis is a huge draw for Survivor, it’s hard not to love the returning droid BD-1.

The tiny companion is set to join Cal on his second adventure, providing hints, tips and humor throughout the journey. But, as we’ll come on to in a second, you’re able to interact with BD-1 with a press of a button.

How to interact with BD-1 in Star Wars Jedi Survivor

It couldn’t be easier to interact with BD-1 in Jedi Survivor. All you need to do is press down and hold on the D-pad. Just like in the previous game, this will trigger Cal tooo check in with his droid, asking if he’s OK and giving him a pet. It’s a tiny feature, but one that really helps build the bond between the two characters. Remember, the key is you have to hold it down. If you tap down it will cause BD to scan the environment.

BD-1 has fast become one of the most-loved droids in the Star Wars franchise – with a number of sub-reddits dedicated to it. One Sta Wars fan wrote: “BD-1 is such a great addition to the Star Wars universe. I quickly fell in love with the little guy and sincerely hope we get to see him in live-action or an animated series in the future. He is up there with Chopper and R2 for my favorite droids.”

Another added: “Cal and BD’s relationship is the heart of the game. Their little animations crawling through narrow passages show how in tune with each other they are. They save each other. They are serious life goals. Lol.”

Fallen Order did a fantastic job in intertwining Cal and BD-1’s relationship – and interacting with the droid was a key part of that. It seems EA does have an art of nailing the relationship between human and machine. Titanfall 2’s  BT-7274 or ‘BT’ for short, regularly let the player interact with it – which helped drive the story and build the relationship between the two. Long may it continue.

Jedi Survivor is available on PS5, Xbox Series X / S and PC from April 28.
