Do you need to carry more items in Starfield? Bethesda RPGs typically have a carry-weight system that dictates how many items you can have in your inventory. This limits the number of weapons, ammo, resources, and other items you can hold in the pockets of your spacesuit.

If you end up carrying too many digipicks or iron ore, you will need to offload it onto your ship or face the consequences of being encumbered. Luckily, there is a means of increasing the amount of kilograms of items that you can carry.

If you want to keep looting items and shoving them into your backpack instead of into your ship’s cargo space, you will need to increase your carry weight. There are many items in the multiple star systems and being strong will help you carry them all. Here is how you increase your carry weight in Starfield.

How to increase carrying capacity in Starfield

If you want to increase your carrying capacity in Starfield, you will need to put ranks into the Weight Lifting skill. This skill will increase your carrying capacity by small increments. You can level this skill up each time you gain a level in the game.

The different ranks of the skill are as follows:

  1. Increase total carrying capacity by 10 kilograms
  2. Increase total carrying capacity by 25 kilograms
  3. Increase total carrying capacity by 50 kilograms
  4. Increase total carrying capacity by 100 kilograms and gain 50% resistance to stagger

There are other means of carrying more items as well. For instance, you can use a companion as a pack mule. This will allow you to essentially carry double the weight.

Of course, you can also lessen the weight you are carrying by placing items in your personal storage aboard your ship. If you happen to reach your maximum carry capacity, you will become encumbered.

While encumbered, you will exert more energy. Running will cause you to use more oxygen and generate more CO2. You will also be unable to fast travel until you offload the excess items.
