Starfield lets you do a bunch of stuff, including pickpocketing NPCs wandering around you. This is a great way to get items and some extra credits while exploring a city, but you shouldn’t rely on it solely. If you’re currently wondering how to pickpocket in Starfield, don’t worry; we’ve got you covered. Our guide will explain everything you need to know about it.

How can I pickpocket in Starfield?

To pickpocket an NPC in Starfield, simply go behind them quitely and press the crouch button. Then, press the E key on your keyboard to steal items from them. You will get to choose fom a list of items. You can either steal all of them or only select what you want. However, make sure to remain hidden while pickpocketing, as getting caught will have consequences, such as getting sent to jail.

It is important to note that before you can start pickpocketing NPCs in Starfield, you need to unlock it first. To do this, invest at least one skill point in the Theft skill. Furthermore, as you rank up your Theft skill, your chances to successfuly pickpocket also increase.

  • Rank 1: The ability to pickpocket is unlocked.
  • Rank 2: There is now a 10% geater chance to successfully pickpocket an NPC.
  • Rank 3: There is now a 30% geater chance to successfully pickpocket an NPC.
  • Rank 4: There is now a 50% geater chance to successfully pickpocket an NPC.

Keep in mind that investing in the Theft skill will not unlock the ability to pick locks. For that, you need to invest in the Security skill.

While pickpocketing seems fun and all, it isn’t something you should rely on to help you get tons of items and credits. Sure, it’s a great way to pass time and get items while on the go, but there is nothing special about it. Pickpocketing only becomes fun after you’ve reached rank 4, as you’re chances of stealing something from an NPC are below 50% before that.
