Zelda games are known for each having a special tool or ability that you use to get you through the game. In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, this tool was the Sheikah Slate. The strange device helped you solve puzzles and was the key to completing the game.

In The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Link has a new tool that grants him a new ability. This tool is called the Ultra Hand. While Nintendo has been pretty silent about most of the game, the devs have not shied away from showing off some of the Ultrahand abilities. So what exactly is the Ultrahand in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

What is the Ultrahand in Tears of the Kingdom?

There are plenty of little gameplay mechanics that Nintendo has shown off including the Recall power and Link’s new Ultrahand ability. The Ultrahand takes the place of Link’s arm after it gets corrupted or cut off in the story. That part is still unclear, but it has led to some new mechanics for the game.

What is the Ultrahand ability used for in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom?

The Ultrahand offers a brand new way to play the game by allowing Link to fuse items together. In previous trailers, this ability was used to craft various weapons by sticking different things together. This ability allows you to stick just about anything to Link’s weapons and shield, increasing Link’s attack power and defensive capabilities.

Thanks to the new Zonai devices in the game, you will have access to rockets, fans, and more to help you ascend to new heights and reach new areas of Hyrule previously unexplored. Player creativity has already skyrocketed thanks to images of a large car and a hot air balloon in the game.

How much does it cost to use the Ultrahand ability?

From our understanding, you will need to collect Zonai parts from large gumball machine-looking objects in the world. This will add resources to your inventory that you can then use later. These machines are found in ruins and will allow you to create items like a cart and even attach rockets to Link’s weapons to help him fly through the sky. There is a true sense of freedom in Tears of the Kingdom that other Zelda titles like Ocarina of Time didn’t have.

Nintendo has put limits on this ability however, this is obviously so it can’t be used all the time but these ‘Zonai Charge’ objects will be required to construct vehicles with Ultrahand.

Other abilities have been shown off as well like the new ascend ability that allows Link to go through ceilings.

The Ultrahand is similar to using the Sheikah Slate in Breath of the Wild. You can use the Ultrahand to pick up objects. To activate the hand, you press the L Button. You will then see button prompts appear on the screen. Pressing the A Button will allow you to attach one object to another. You can use this method to create new means of transport and to solve puzzles.

What is the glue that the Ultrahand uses made of?

When objects are attached together with the Fuse ability, there is a sticky substance that attaches the objects together. Nintendo has not disclosed what this substance is but we can assume that it is some sort of magic that the Ultrahand uses.

When two objects have been fused, they will remain attached until you select the objects and detach them from each other. You can detach objects suing the Ultrahand as well.
