During your adventure in the world of Sanctuary and beyond in Diablo 4, you’ll meet many interesting characters. One of the first people you’ll meet is the mysterious Lorath Nahr. Fans of previous Diablo games will no doubt know who the cloaked man is, but newcomers may be a bit confused.

Diablo 4 Beta: Who Is Lorath Nahr?
Lorath Nahr is an NPC players interact with in Diablo IV. Though, he’s much more than a non-player character, as he narrates the game and becomes a sort of mentor to you, the hero of the game. You’ll meet him rather quickly after the beginning of the tutorial section. Well, that is if you pursue the main quest. If you follow the story of the game, you’ll encounter Nahr in a cabin in the woods. It’s necessary to meet him i you want to progress the campaign. Without getting too deep into spoilers, Lorath Nahr plays a vital role in assisting the main character.
As for the voice of Lorath, Nahr is voiced by actor Yuri Lowenthal.
History of Lorath Nahr
Lorath Nahr first appeared in Diablo III in the expansion pack Reaper of Souls. Now, for those who have yet to complete the third game in the series, there will be lore spoilers ahead for both Diablo IV and the previous game in the series.
During the DLC, Nahr is present when the Horadrim tried to seal away the Black Soulstone in Westmarch. The artifact was created in order to bind the souls of both angels and demons, as well as to trap the seven Great Evils, rules of Hell.
Nahr and former angel Tyrael try to stop the fallen angel of death Malthael, the antagonist of the DLC, from stealing the soulstone but it all goes rather wrong. Nahr’s companions are killed by Malthael, leaving Tyrael alone to fight the big bad of Reaper of Souls. Nahr is sent to track down the Nephalem, the player character and hero of Diablo III, to help the angel win the battle.
While the battle raged between the two angels with the Nephalem’s help, Nahr remained behind to help villagers in the city of Westmarch. It was here became a Knight of Westmarch before studying the ways of the Horadrim to join their order as a scholar. He used his knowledge as a member to write tomes on the Prime Evils such as Baal to ensure everyone understood them and knew the signs to watch out for.
Meanwhile, with Malthael escaping from the fight, the main character focuses on finding the witch Adria. Having killed her, Lorath Nahr is able to discover Malthael’s location now in the realm of Pandemonium. Thus ends Nahr’s role to play in the the story of Reaper of Souls. However, it isn’t the last time we see him in the franchise.
Lorath Nahr returns in Diablo IV as the Pale Man when the main character visits him on the Fractured Peaks. The member of the Horadrim learns that the wanderer has drank the blood of Lilith, the main antagonist of Diablo IV. Nahr recommends the hero visit the Cathedral of Light in Kyovashad in order to speak with its leaders to uncover what exactly Lilith is up to.
