AMD’s next high-end gaming graphics card, the Radeon RX 6800 XT, competes with the GeForce RTX 3080.

It is the pinnacle of 4K video gaming. AMD has boldly asserted that the RX 6800 XT can play 4K games at 60 frames per second or at least perform on par with the RTX 3080 at this resolution.

The new RDNA2 architecture used in the 6800 XT graphics card is based on TSMC’s 7nm manufacturing process. In 72 CUs, the GPU has 4608 cores, 288 TMUs, and 128 ROPs. The memory speed is 512GB/s, and the cores can run up to 2250 MHz. 16GB of 16Gbps GDDR6 memory is present on a 256-bit wide memory bus. It supports PCI Express 4.0 and is rated for 300 watts TBP.

The new features include Ray tracing capability, 128MB of AMD Infinity Cache, and Shared Access Memory.

More advanced ray tracing capability and DLSS 2.0 may be the GeForce GPU‘s advantages, but we think these features are only a huge selling point if you play a particular set of games. DLSS 2.0 is fantastic, but not enough games currently use it.

Although there is a significant performance hit, Watch Dogs Legion and Control have the most exemplary RT implementations to date. At least in those games, you can perceive the effects.

The Radeon RX 6800 XT has a significantly larger VRAM buffer, SAM support, and a little lower price. The 16GB VRAM buffer will prove helpful in the future, say within the next two years.

Customers of Nvidia who have been waiting months for the performance of the RTX 3080 have been given an exceptional chance to switch to AMD.

It will be fascinating to see if they blow this chance since they probably only have a little window to act now. If an RX 6800 XT is available, there is absolutely no possibility that folks who sold their RTX 2080 Ti in anticipation of the RTX 3080 and have been stuck pushing refresh since release won’t buy one faster than you can say, “Just Buy It.”
