So what is Apple Watch Double Tap? At their Wonderlust Event, Apple introduced a new feature for the Apple Watch Series 9 under watchOS 10: a new gesture that allows you to simply tap your forefinger and thumb together (twice) without needing to touch the phone itself – it’s pretty science fiction we must say.
You can use this gesture to answer the phone, turn off an alarm, or open various menus depending on the context – pretty slick.
How does Double Tap work on an Apple Watch?
So how does this crazy tech work? Well the neural engine in the new S9 chip uses the inbuilt gyroscope and accelerometer to detect the change in position of the watch, plus health data that can be detected by the Apple watch (e.g. changes in blood pressure, plus other haptic features) to work out that the specific movement is being attempted, and then processes the action in split second time.
We can’t wait to see how this works in practice when we get our hands on one! See our Apple Watch Series 9 pre order page to pick up yours as soon as they’re available.
