ASUS have revealed a few interesting new monitors at Computex, including the ASUS ROG PG49WCD super ultra wide 49″ gaming monitor. This is the first ASUS monitor to use a QD-OLED (Quantum Dot OLED) panel, as produced by Samsung, which should hopefully negate some of the limitations of regular OLED monitors when it comes to maintaining peak brightness.
Although we don’t yet have the full dimensions, we can say it’s approximately the size of two 27-inch displays next to each other (though probably slightly smaller). Read below for the full specs breakdown.
ASUS ROG PG49WCD specs
The ASUS ROG PG49WCD comes with a special graphene film and custom heatsink behind the panel, which is designed to improve heat dissipation, and so reduce the risk of screen burn-in, plus maintain the peak brightness at the claimed 1000 nits. There is a risk with OLED displays that the high peak brightness degrades over time, largely due to thermal degradation, so these features should hopefully also reduce the risk / extent of this occurring.
Additionally Quantum Dot OLED panels don’t require as much power and therefore heat to produce the same effective brightness as regular OLED panels, so this should also improve the experience.
Besides this, it should be noted that there doesn’t appear to be any G-Sync support for this monitor, though there is AMD FreeSync Premium Pro.
The 1800R curvature is relatively moderate, which should improve its utility as a general use display when you’re not gaming.
