Malware is something that ends up attacking many games, and Call of Duty has experienced quite a bit of it in its time. It is a sad thing that happens in the video game world, as sometimes it gets so bad that players fear even trying to play the game because of safety reasons. It seems that malware has once again become a problem in another Call of Duty game recently.
It is no lie that Call of Duty has experienced a lot of hackers in its time, and it is a sad thing that happens in the video game world as sometimes it gets so bad that players fear even playing the game for safety reasons.
This recently happened with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, where players were warned of not playing the game due to the possibility of hackers seeing their IP addresses and finding personal information.
Sadly to say, it seems something similar is happening to another popular Call of Duty game, and more extreme measures have been taken this time around.
Infinity Ward takes down MW2 2009 servers
In a recent Twitter post from CharlieIntel, who is known for posting about Call of Duty, shares a tweet with an image explaining how Infinity Ward has taken down the MW2 2009 servers and currently has them sent offline until further notice.
The post on Twitter shared that the reason behind the servers being taken off from an online status is due to malware being spread through lobbies. The image goes on to state that a user on a Stream forum made players of MW2 aware of the hackers and things happening in these lobbies and how players should run an antivirus system.
It was then discovered that malware was being analyzed within the game, but instead of just being single versus or bug, it isn’t instead a whole thread of malware making what is called a worm, which is basically a series of code and strings inside of the malware. It can be a bit confusing to understand if one doesn’t know much about coding, but worms are much bigger than other forms of viruses.
The image also states that an industry insider – one who did not want to be named since they aren’t allowed to discuss things with the press – confirmed that, indeed, the malware does contain the malware that makes it a worm. So far, nothing has been said by the developers about how they are going about fixing this, like with Black Ops Cold War, or if they might not.
