Can you play CS2 on an APU? You might be surprised to know that the system requirements for CS2 are still very forgiving despite the fantastic graphical upgrade. APUs can be fairly limited in terms of power thanks to the reduced space for a GPU die inside the CPU package, but does this stop modern APUs from running CS2 properly?

As with anything, it will depend on what APU you have and what settings and resolution you want to play CS2 on. I doubt very much that you will be playing CS2 maxed out at a competitive level with an APU.

Can you ruin CS2 on an APU?

The answer is yes, you can run CS2 on an APU, we have found, thanks to Christo Gevedjov’s video on YouTube, that you can run CS2 using a Ryzen 5 5600G in 1080p Low/mid settings and still get around 60 FPS most of the time, depending on the map and situation.

We wouldn’t recommend going any lower than the 5600G as those CPUs could struggle running the newer game. But if you’re stuck with a 3000 series Ryzen or a lower Intel CPU, you can expect to be playing in lower resolutions.

Should you get an APU to play CS2?

Getting yourself the best APU can be an incredibly cost-efficient way to play games, especially if you’re stuck on a tight budget, but we don’t recommend getting an APU to play CS2 specifically if you can help it.

APUs are fairly limited in what they can achieve, but they are fine just driving an office display for word processing. Whilst some APUs are designed with gaming in mind, no APU will ever beat having a dedicated GPU. Although some APUs, such as the 5600G, are fantastic at gaming for the price of them.

What is an APU and why does it have limitations?

An APU is a CPU and a GPU mashed together onto the CPU package, meaning the CPU does everything a CPU and GPU do without the hassle and expense of a dedicated GPU. This comes at a trade-off, however, because the GPU has to be tame, and efficient so as to not overheat the CPU. Just to name one of many limitations

APUs are really just designed for driving a display for the office, and not really designed for intense gaming, however, the specifications of CS2 are so forgiving that you can actually get away with an APU. Not only that, you can even have a decent 60 FPS experience doing it.
