The FIFA 22 announcements are coming thick and fast with news of  FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) ‘22 Ones to Watch feature coming just after launching the FIFA 22 Beta. David Alaba is the first player to be declared a ‘One to Watch’ player in FUT 22. Alaba is one of the big signings in this summer’s transfer window and will surely remain at the top of any watchlist throughout FIFA 22’s lifespan.

David Alaba recently transferred to Real Madrid from Bayern Munich on a “free” transfer (reportedly costing his new employers £123 million). With the big international signing commanding such interest, the defender is now the first player to become a One to Watch in FIFA’s FUT for the ‘22 season. We are expecting ten players to make the initial One to Watch list, based on this summer’s transfer dealings – which will close on August 31. The players listed as Ones to Watch will receive upgrades to their FUT ratings if they perform well for their club during the 2021-22 season.

If a One to Watch player makes Team of the Week or is awarded Man of the Match, they will receive an upgrade just like they did in FUT ‘21. However, this season there are even more challenges to complete to receive an upgrade. There is a new ‘Wins to Watch’ upgrade, for example,  along with a one-time +1 In-Form boost which will occur if a team wins five matches out of their next ten domestic league games.  You can find more information on the new awards on FIFA’s website.

To prevent unfair advantages from being handed out before FIFA 22 launches, these achievements will commence from October 1, ignoring the first month or so of results from the national leagues that are currently underway.

With David Alaba headlining the One to Watch FUT 22 feature, we can expect other players to join the list the closer we get to October 1. This will be very interesting to watch, especially since FIFA fans get to pick a free One to Watch player if they buy FIFA 22’s Ultimate Edition. But the question on everyone’s lips is, will we see Messi in FUT’s ‘22 Ones to Watch due to him being a marquee signing at PSG after years at Barcelona? We’ll find out soon enough.
