Publisher Electronic Arts has announced that it is merging its two subscriptions services, EA Access and Origin Access Basic, under one umbrella as EA Play. The rebrand arrives just in time for EA Play’s launch on Steam for PC later this month on August 31st, 2020.

EA says the change comes with a ‘fresh new look,’ though many of the features that comprise the subscription service remain unchanged, notably the price and the benefits membership grants – 10-hour early EA game trials, 10% discount on digital purchases of full games and DLC, and access to an ever-growing library of games, including The Sims 4, Need For Speed Heat, Titanfall 2, Battlefield V, Star Wars Battlefront, and EA’s expansive archive of sports titles.

Star Wars Squadrons System Requirements

EA also announced it is rebranding its premium tier Origin Access Premier to EA Play Pro, which includes all the benefits of the basic EA Play subscription alongside full access to EA’s latest releases, early access to deluxe versions of EA’s latest games, and an expanded library of games. Pricing sticks to $4.99 a month/$29.99 a year for EA Play, and $14.99 a month/$99.99 a year for EA Play Pro.

More benefits are on are their way in the months ahead, including in-game challenges and monthly reward drops. Upcoming EA titles, Madden NFL 21, FIFA 21, and Star Wars: Squadrons, are first in line. Here are the benefits coming to each title:

  • Madden NFL 21 players get to start their season early on August 21st, as well as enjoy EA Play Challenges, a launch-day pack in Madden Ultimate Team™, three Gold Team Fantasy Packs each month, plus additional in-game benefits that will give you a boost on the field.
  • FIFA 21 players will get early access to the trial starting October 1st with pre-launch challenges to unlock bonuses and additional benefits all season long including FIFA Ultimate Team™ Season Objective XP boosts.
  • Star Wars: Squadrons players will receive in-game perks through vanity items like the Interceptor Elegance Helmet and the Ashen Monarch Starfighter Paint Job Set.

The EA Play rebranding applies to all currently supported platforms, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, EA’s Origin launcher, and soon, Steam.
