Former Bungie Director Paul Bertone has joined 343 Industries as the studio technical design director, as announced by the head of creative at 343 Industries Joseph Staten.

Who Is Paul Bertone?

Paul Bertone was a senior employee at Bungie. He was part of the design team for Halo: Combat Evolved, later became the design lead on Halo 2 and then took on the role of the lead mission designer for Halo 3.

As stated on Twitter by Joseph Staten:

I’m happy to confirm Halo veteran Paul Bertone has joined the team as Studio Technical Design Director. Paul and I met in 1999, back in Bungie’s Chicago days, and then shipped Halo 1-3, ODST and Rech together. I’m thrilled to have Paul help lead the future of Halo Infinite.”

Frustrations Over Halo Infinite

The news comes after several players have shifted focus from Halo Infinite to the older Halo: The Master Chief Collection due to a perceived lack of content in the former.

Infinite was criticized during the launch of the multiplayer for not having enough content inside the season pass and later criticised (when the campaign launched) for not launching with a full campaign co-op mode akin to other Halo titles in the series.

The clear hope that 343 Industries has when hiring Paul Bertone is that he can bring some of the old fanbase back to the game and inject some signature Halo charm into the game, without compromising the original vision of the game itself.
