The annual Fortnite summer event started July 4 and will last for two weeks. The name of this year’s event is Summer Escape and there seems to be plenty of content for players to interact with and lock. Like any Fortnite event, there are skins to be released, but players in the community have been less than thrilled over recent skins.

There was the debate over the Breezabelle skin that was announced to be available through Fortnite Crew with some players thinking it wasn’t worthy of being a Fortnite crew skin. Players also seemed unimpressed with the Chapter 4 Season 3 Battle Pass skins when they were announced. Potential released dates for summer event skins have been leaked and players have opinions regarding the new cosmetics as well.

Possible release dates for Fortnite Summer Event skins

In a Twitter post by iFireMonkey, the user shared potential release dates for the summer event skins:

  • Opal & Ruby: July 10 at 8pm ET / July 11 at 1am BST
  • Chaos Explorer: July 14 at 8pm ET / July 15 at 1am BST

It is not confirmed if more summer event skins will be announced prior to or after the release of these skins. However, some players seem disappointed in these announced skins.

Twitter user @Matthew66196421 commented, “Please tell me these aren’t the only ‘summer’ skins we’re getting.”

The skin that is drawing the most negative attention from this announcement is by far Opal. The Opal skin is a heavier set compared to other female skins, a fact of which has garnered negative comments from some players. Twitter user @KingstonLXIXy said, “Opal is the worst Fortnite skin ever. Change my mind.”

Although, some players do not mention the size of the Opal skin so it may be true that they just do not like the design of the summer event cosmetic.

However, players have come to the defense of Opal, citing body shaming as the reason behind the skin’s unpopularity. Twitter user @Arixxbealovee said, “Y’all body shaming a skin is actually so embarrassing get a life like actually.”
