There’s currently divided opinion about whether the iPad Air 6 release date is imminent or will land early next year. An October-November launch is now looking less likely, as Apple came out with the new Apple pencil on October 17th. (which you’d normally expect to come out alongside a new iPad release), so our money is currently on an early 2024 launch and release, though obviously nothing is certain at this stage.

When will the iPad Air 6 release?

In order to come up with a likely iPad Air 6 release date window, let’s have a look at both the history of previous iPad Air releases, as well as the latest from known tech leakers.

The latest iPad Air 6 release date rumors

Leaker Instant Digital has made comments that he believes the new iPad Air would land ‘soon’ i.e. sooner than next year, and Supercharged News has claimed that the new iPad Airs would be launching on the week of Monday 16th – Friday 20th of October, though given we’re most of the way through the week, and Apple announced the new Apple Pencil on Tuesday 17th, this now seems much less likely.

Well respected Apple commenter Mark Gurman, stated back in July that he expected to see the new iPad Air 6 come out in October, but in his latest Power On blog on Bloomberg he has said recent indications suggest this is no longer the the case. He points to an early 2024 release.

Based on all the above then, we think a 2023 release seems unlikely. and a Q1 2024 release is most probable.

Given that Apple tends to release products in the same periods that they have historically, our iPad Air 6 release date window is March, 2024.

iPad Air 6 specs (rumored)

According to 9to5Mac, they have unnamed ‘sources’ that claim we could be seeing two variants of the iPad Air 6, besides the expected Wi-Fi/cellular versions. The evidence is currently circumstantial, but the current money is on two different sizes of the new device. We’ve already got a 10.9-inch version, which is likely to remain, and it’s anyone’s guess whether the new device will be smaller or larger, but our money is on a larger 12.9-inch version like the current iPad Pro has.

Given the current 5th gen iPad Air has an Apple M1 chipset, it’s fairly probable the latest model with come with an M2 chip (s predicted by Revegnus). We can expect the new model to come with a USB-C port following Apple’s recent transition to this technology (including with the new Apple Pencil). Given the likes of Mark Gurman have stated that he doesn’t expect an enormous change to the line-up, we can probably expect the other specifications to remain similar to the existing model.

There’s been little in the way of leaks regarding the pricing of the upcoming device, but the price of the previous model seems a decent bet. If, of course, a different size iPad Air gets released, then it’s anyone’s guess as to how Apple will choose to price this one.

Although nothing has been confirmed by Apple, it’s extremely likely we’ll see an iPad Air 6 released at some point. Virtually every tech commenter and journalist that reports on Apple products thinks that a new iPad Air is in the works, the only question is when we’ll see it launched.
