During Nintendo Direct, it was announced that a visually enhanced version of Luigi would be returning. This release will be the first Luigi-centered game since 2019.

After a decade since the game’s release, players will be able to play through Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon on the Nintendo Switch

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon will be visually remastered

Announced alongside a remake of Super Mario RPG and a new Princess Peach game, a visually remastered version of Lugi’s Mansion: Dark Moon was revealed to be in development.

The game was originally on the 3DS, a sequel to Luigi’s Mansion released in 2001 on the GameCube. Dark Moon was the third game to feature Luigi as the protagonist instead of his big brother, Mario

Luigi’s Mansion Dark Moon sees the green clad plumber fighting through a series of mansions in Evershade Valley with the help of his Poltergust 5000, invented by Professor E. Gadd, capturing ghosts. In order to restore peace to Evershade Valley, Luigi must collect the pieces of the Dark Moon and recapture the main antagonist, King Boo.

Dark Moon also offered cooperative multiplayer mode that can be played locally or online via the Nintendo Network. It can be assumed that multiplier will make a return as the Nintendo Network is still up and running, but it’s not confirmed as of now.

The game garnered positive reception, being praised for its mix of old and new features. It’s unclear if any new content will be added to the game. All we know for now is that the visuals will get an upgrade for its Switch release.

2023 started off as a rough year for Mario’s brother as Luigi was not featured in a New Years Twitter post made by Nintendo of America, despite it being a decade since the year of Luigi marketing campaign in 2013 and 40 years since the character’s introduction into the Mario games. 2023 may not be the year of Luigi, but next year may very well be.

The game is set to release in 2024.
