A newly released Beta test from LG is asking 2022 model owners for feedback on bringing the most recent OS system to older platforms. The beta has specified TVs from the 2022 4K OLED TV lineups (A2/B2/2/G2/CS Series) as well as the LX series of lifestyle products as being able to take part in the beta.

Improvements of the OS23 system over OS22 include improved navigation and customization as well as smoother overall performance. It will also introduce more curated suggestions through OS23’s ‘Quick Cards’ system and an AI assistant that can recommend more of the things you like.

It would appear that the beta upgrades the older TVs to the WebOS23 operating system, which is the latest until the announced OS24 system is launched with LG’s upcoming 2024 lineup.

While there is still no confirmed date for LG’s G4, C4, and B4, they are typically released early in the year, in March/April.

LG prepare to roll out new OS beta

It’s likely this latest Beta test for the WebOS23 system on older platforms will be replaced by an OS24 update when it is released to the public and that this beta test is to get older platforms ready for a multi-gen leap.

Users on Reddit who have signed up for the Beta report that the OS can’t be uninstalled by the user if they opt into the beta test, meaning if it’s not to your taste, then you’re stuck with it.

This Beta test is part of the commitment that LG made late last year to support OS updates in their TVs for four years after launch in what they’ve titled the WebOS Re:New program. Bringing the latest connectivity features to older models.

LG has confirmed to TV news website FlatPanels HD that these OS updates will not be reskins as was found in updates to 2020 and 2019 line models but full system updates.

LG said it is looking to invest heavily in its WebOS business as the number of LG devices grows, with a target of 300 million connected devices by 2026.

We’ll make sure to update this story as more comes in and as LG’s 2024 lineup release is confirmed.
