Recent reports from 3DCenter point towards evidence of the RTX 4090 dropping in price based on the German market, but it still isn’t as low as we’ve seen in the past. With Nvidia focusing on the release of the China-exclusive RTX 4090D, stock levels elsewhere in the world have suffered, causing a price surge.

Getting your hands on the RTX 4090 for a decent price has always been a struggle. Even with the RTX 4080 Super releasing, it still doesn’t come close to the flagship 4090, therefore has little effect on the pricing. Even though the card has been out for some time now, the original $1,599 MSRP is still not something you can expect to get close to.

RTX 4090 price is now recovering

The good news however is that a trend of price drops for the RTX 4090 is evident, at least for German retailers, which could be good news for European consumers. Big price rises at the end of last year pushed it above €2,000 as a reaction to Nvidia’s focus on the modified (less powerful) RTX 4090D, designed for the Chinese market as a reaction to US export restrictions on high-end chips such as one used in the original 4090.

As you can see from the table below, the price has seen a generous drop in February 2024, but it still isn’t as low as it was back in August 2023. We hope to see the price dropping even more in the coming months. Even though it’s unmistakably the best GPU right now, it’s still a hard sell.

Is it a good time to buy the RTX 4090?

With no RTX 4090 Super coming along (just yet) to help rectify inflated price tags like we saw with the RTX 4080, it looks like the RTX 4090 is going to remain priced above its original MSRP by some margin for time to come. That being said, a promising trend in dropping prices is a good sign we’ve seen recently – hopefully this trend makes it way over to the US market as well.

We probably won’t be rushing to buy an RTX 4090 right now, as the price could fall even further in coming months to return it to a more ‘regular’ level, at least based on some recent stats.
