Yesterday at Star Wars Celebration, the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was revealed. It’s called Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and is releasing in 2024.

The trailer depicts what looks like a member of the Inquistorius talking down to Cal, as Cal looks rather worse for wear and as if he’s spent the last five years (the game is taking a time jump) trying to survive, which ties in perfectly with the officially revealed title of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. There’s also a mysterious man in a Bacta tank, but we currently have absolutely no idea who he might be or what the significance of him is, and Cal has lost his weapon to the Empire. It’s truly a mystery as to how he’ll get out of this one, but we’ll see when the game releases on PC and PS5/Xbox Series X, completely forgoing last-generation systems.

In an interview with Starwars.com, Stig Asmussen, director of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, had the following to say about the decision:

So I think the biggest thing is ray tracing, or lighting. That’s allowing us to do real-time lighting, all the time, at a fidelity that’s well beyond anything that we’ve ever produced before. Since it’s real-time, we get to see the changes as we tweak the lights- immediately essentially. That means that we have more time to polish, that means we can iterate more, and we can get better results that feel more filmic.”

You can’t escape us, Cal.

Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order released back in 2019 and was a huge hit for Respawn Entertainment. It showcased how a Jedi Padawan, Cal Kestis, managed to stay hidden from the Empire and save a group of Jedi children from falling into the clutches of the Empire, while he also attempted to survive a constant bombardment of Sith Inquisitors trained by Darth Vader himself. A sequel to the game is something people have been begging for since the initial release of the game, so to say there’s a lot of hype for this would be an understatement.
