Valve has finally started to add more than just maps to the CS2 limited test, now we have the addition of Wingman to the roster of game modes those lucky few on the limited test can play. This is all thanks to the new CS2 update adds Overpass overhaul and Wingman game mode.

Overpass was hinted at by an easter egg in the CS2 Twitter banner just last week, we now know that easter egg to be true.

Overpass added to CS2 along with Vertigo in a recent update

Overpass has now been added to CS2, this marks the first “overhaul” map that Valve intended to implement into CS2. This means that Overpass fell into the category of map that was going to undergo the heaviest changes, to give the map a proper new lease on life.

CS2 adds overpass and vertigo maps to limited test

Overpass was recently hinted at by the team running the CS2 Twitter account, as the banner was changed to a dragon, resembling the graffiti found on the map Overpass.

We didn’t just get Overpass this update either, no, we also got a new and improved Vertigo added to the fray of playable maps in the CS2 limited test. However, Vertigo is only playable in Deathmatch and Casual game modes, whereas Overpass is also playable in Wingman.

Sadly, for this to happen we had to say goodbye to two maps, Nuke and Office. This possibly means that Valve is happy with the state they are in, and wish to focus on testing the maps recently added.

A new update brings the Wingman game mode to CS2

There was an update posted on the CS:GO Steam page regarding the most recent changes to CS2, detailed in patch Notes for 7/17/2023, which is the fact that Wingman now exists as a game mode within CS2.

added wingman game mode to CS2 limited test

For the uninitiated, Wingman is essentially 2v2 CS that takes place on smaller versions of maps, usually with only one bomb site. This helps make engagements tighter and works well with the smaller 2v2 format.

Now, you have nothing stopping you from playing Wingman in CS2 and experiencing the game mode in all the fidelity improvements that CS2 brings.

Miscellaneous changes to CS2 in the 7/17/2023 release note

The update was relatively little in terms of noted changes in the release notes, so we’re going to list the miscellaneous changes to the limited test here:

[ WORKSHOP TOOLS ]

  • Enabled undo/redo buttons
  • Various bug fixes

[ MISC ]

  • Added the “Secondary Fire Hold” option to the input settings menu
  • The halftime countdown timer is now visible
  • Fixed a case where the camera would not interpolate correctly when switching between chase and roaming spectator modes.
  • Fixed a case where the viewmodel weapon would disappear for one frame when switching in-eye spectator targets.
  • Added leading zeroes on StatTrak module
  • Glove patterns and wear now more closely align with CS:GO versions
  • Various improvements to foil stickers
  • Various adjustments to the size of stickers applied to weapons

As you can see, most of them are just visual changes and QOL changes. The real exciting stuff is at the top because The new CS2 update adds Overpass overhaul and Wingman game mode.
