Counter-Strike 2 received a new update on the 2nd of August 2023, adding its fair share of exciting things to the limited test. These items included 2 new maps, improved animations, and aquatic chickens. However, It seems as though the new CS2 update disabled Wingman only 16 days after the team added it. Gabe giveth, and Gabe taketh away.

August 2nd CS2 update disables the Wingman game mode

This came as a surprise to us, as the Wingman game mode was only introduced 17 days ago, as of the time of writing. And it was never stipulated when the game mode was added that it would be on a temporary basis. Nether the less, the August 2nd CS2 update disabled the wingman game mode, but why?

CS2 update disables wingman

Well, we certainly don’t think it’s forever, despite the fact it is now disabled, we must examine the language closely to gain a better insight into what’s going on here. Disabled, doesn’t mean removed, this is how we’re sure Wingman will come back into the CS2 limited test.

Why was the Wingman game mode disabled?

It’s hard to tell as there’s no official word on why the Wingman game mode was disabled in the August 2nd update.

One reason is there simply isn’t enough player to keep it viably open, maybe the team at Valve has closed it temporarily to focus on getting the main game all polished up.

The reason we think that Wingman could have struggled for players is that this game mode is usually played in pairs, and if your favorite Wingman buddy doesn’t have a CS2 invite, then you’re out of luck.

The other reason it could be disabled for now is that Valve may feel that they have sufficiently tested the game mode, and have concluded it is working, or shut it down for further tweaks.

We’ll never really know why the Wingman game mode was disabled just 16 days after it was added, not until Valve tells us more anyway. We don’t think it’s gone forever, however, so don’t fret.

That’s not all from the CS2 August 2nd update

There are three main things that stand out in this update, and those are obviously the addition of Anubis and Ancient maps to the reworked map pool. Because of this, the previous two maps, Overpass and Vertigo, have been removed.

This is exciting news, as by our reckoning, Valve only has Inferno to do out of the main CS:GO map pool. could this mean that a CS2 release is on the horizon? We are about a month into Summer now, So we can’t be too far off, right?

The final thing I want to discuss is the Aquatic chickens, chickens can now swim in CS2. Not only are you able to cook them into literally fried chicken, you now cannot drown them.

CS chickens can now swim min

Well, it’s less like swimming, and more like floating whilst walking on the water. But still, the pathfinding is terrible and I sincerely hope they improve on it.
