Pros
  • Excellent build quality
  • Wireless connectivity on Xbox and PC
  • Four programmable paddles
  • Comfortable for prolonged use
Cons
  • More expensive than Core Xbox controller

Although this is our pick for the Xbox, the Microsoft-designed controller also works just as well on PC thanks to easy connectivity. What we’re focusing on here in terms of ‘Xbox’ controller is the layout. Any long-time use of Xbox controllers will be more than accustomed to the asymmetrical stick design.

The Xbox Elite Series 2 offers a premium pad which outperforms the standard Xbox ‘Core’ controllers with some extra functionality thrown in. The buttons are tactile and response, while extra customization options such as swappable thumbstick toppers, D-pad, and back paddles means replacing parts is easy.

The Xbox Accessories app allows exclusive button mapping and lighting options for this pad too. Bundle this in with custom profiles which can be switched between on-board and you’ve got plenty of customization to play with. Not to mention the 4 additional back paddles which can be remapped to your liking. Perfect if you want some tailor-fit controller mapping in Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

Best PlayStation controller for AC Mirage: DualSense Edge

Bluetooth, USB Type-C

Additional buttons

2x extra buttons on the back. Choice of levers or half-dome

Battery life

Pros
  • Build quality is top-notch
  • Easily replaceable thumbsticks
  • Two swappable and programmable back buttons
  • Adjustable trigger lengths
Cons
  • Premium price tag

Next up is our pick of the bunch for PlayStation controllers – the premium DualSense Edge. This is quite a hefty upgrade on top of the bog-standard DualSense PS5 controller, but that does come at a price. In return though you get a controller which allows for a massive amount of customization. We reviewed the DualSense Edge and were not disappointed with the quality. One thing to mention up front though is that the battery life is a little inferior to the original DualSense.

The weightier design feels great to play with, and the pad comes with tons of extras. Different thumbstick caps (shapes and sizes), two different back button shapes (paddles included), and a carrying case ties the whole package together. These different button styles help you tailor the controller to your liking. The thumbsticks themselves are fully replaceable too, so you can really extend the life of the controller if the analog sticks start to wear.

Like the Xbox Elite, there are quick-swap profiles for you to set up. There are only two back buttons though, which does mean a couple fewer inputs to bind – even compared to third-party alternatives like the SCUF Reflex Pro.

Best controller for AC Mirage on PC: SCUF Instinct Pro

SCUF Instinct Pro controller

scuf instinct

Compatibility

Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC

Weight

280g/9.8oz

Buttons

Standard Xbox layout +4 programmable paddles

Connectivity

Bluetooth, USB Type-C

Ports

USB-C, extension port, 3.5mm stereo headset jack

Wireless range

Up to 12m/45 feet

Pros
  • Dual-mode triggers with on-board switch
  • Best range of customization and colors
  • Four back paddles
  • High-performance grip
Cons
  • Very pricey

The SCUF Instinct Pro is an Xbox-style controller which includes some premium features to take on the official Series 2 Elite controller we featured above. We got a quick hands-on with the Instinct Pro and definitely think it stands as one of the best controllers for PC right now. Thanks to the easy Xbox format connectivity on PC and plenty of customization options, SCUF have really solidified themselves as a top third-party option for game controllers.

You can map the back paddles to 16 different functions; they are tactile and clicky too, which is great. It can be argued that this SCUF alternative feels a little more premium than the Elite Series 2, but they are pretty close in quality. Another great feature of this SCUF controller has to be different trigger types. You can switch on the instant trigger mode, which feels great for shooters. Perhaps not fully relevant for AC Mirage, but the option is much appreciated if you prefer that.

The different thumbstick lengths provided are easily swapped around for easier comfort. Again, there are on-board profiles which can be switched between to your liking. SCUF’s online customization tool also makes this the go-to pick for anyone that really wants to stylize/design the shell and colors.

Best value controllers for AC Mirage

If our top picks above are a little too premium for your liking, then we can offer a couple of alternatives for those working with a smaller budget.

PS5 DualSense

Sony DualSense controller

dualsense controller

Weight

280g/9.87oz

Connectivity

USB Type-C/Bluetooth

Battery life

Up to 15 hours (Depending on haptics)

The standard PS5 DualSense is still a great option if you don’t want to splash out on the DualSense Edge. It comes with features such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers for natural control in-game. The obvious option for anyone looking for a new PlayStation controller for AC Mirage.

PowerA Enhanced wired Xbox controller

PowerA Enhanced Wired Xbox controller

PowerA Pink Lemonade enhanced Xbox controller

Compatibility

Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC

Weight

7.2oz/204.1g

Buttons

Standard Xbox layout +3 programmable paddles

Connectivity

Micro USB

Ports

Micro USB, 3.5mm stereo headset jack

Cable length

10ft/3.05m

We’ve already provided a couple of Xbox-style controllers, so here’s a real budget pick. Of course, you can opt for an Xbox Core controller, but this PowerA alternative is even cheaper while retaining responsive controls. It even features three back paddles of its own. We reviewed the Pink Lemonade colorway and was impressed by the value for money.

Should I use a controller for Assassin’s Creed Mirage on PC?

The long-standing debate of keyboard and mouse vs controller should definitely be decided on a game-by-game basis, so which category does Assassin’s Creed fall into? Well, we think that many people will opt for a controller to play AC Mirage, but that doesn’t rule KB&M out at all. The original Assassin’s Creed was released to console first, but the game has been popular on PC ever since.

This is a game which can definitely be played on both control schemes, with pros and cons for both sides of the equation. On controller, you have nice control over the speed of your character thanks to analog movement for those precise stealthy movements. On the flip side, players with a mouse will get to enjoy precise and quick aiming. Pick whatever you’re more comfortable with.
