Assassin’s Creed Mirage is supposed to take place in the same area that the original game took place in and close to the same time. This has led many to wonder if the game is actually the long-rumored remake or remaster of the original Assassin’s Creed featuring Altair.

Regardless of the answer, the original Assassin’s Creed took a powerful gaming laptop, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage is looking to provide the same intensive CPU and GPU power, so be ready. We’ll have your answer below to whether Ubisoft made a new game, or just a sequel to Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

Is Assassin’s Creed Mirage a remaster for AC1?

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is not a remake or remaster of the original Assassin’s Creed. Unfortunately, it seems like all of the rumors surrounding a remake of the first game were just rumors. This new game takes place in 861, which is 330 years before the first Assassin’s Creed takes place.

You could think of Assassin’s Creed Mirage as a spiritual successor to AC1, because it is going back to the original controls and combat to a degree. However, with all the changes that make it seem less accurate to reality and still a sense of mysticism, it’s still more in line with what we’re used to from the series. There is stealth gameplay, parkour, and an area close to Damascus, where much of the first game took place. It will likely still have many RPG elements but hopefully it’s just a more modern version of showing the foundations of the creed and not just some game that happens to share the name of the series.

Basim Ibn Ishaq, the protagonist, might more likely be an ancestor of Altair rather than a remake of him. He is in the same area that Altair is in, and we know that both of Altair’s parents are from this area. Altair’s father was an assassin, so if Basim stays in Baghdad, it makes sense that his lineage would go to Altair. Basim also seems to have Eagle Vision, which Altair is known for and the game has merchants and unique districts which the original had in abundance. If anything, this is just a heartfelt homage to the original game.

So even though many of us wanted to play the original Assassin’s Creed, this isn’t the remake you’ve been looking for. However, you can always try to play the original again on PC or Steam Deck since it’s harder to find a port for newer consoles.
