Time to investigate; we answer a question on many Steam Deck owner’s minds: will AC Mirage run on Steam Deck? Well, the game is coming close to its release date and definitely looks to be another contender for one of the best Assassin’s Creed games. Whether it runs on Steam Deck or not looks to be a close call based on our current findings, so we thought we’d do a deeper analysis of the issue.

The Steam Deck is a fan favorite for users that want to enjoy their Steam library on the go, with many titles offering excellent Steam Deck compatibility – but is AC Mirage Steam Deck compatible? Well, let’s get to the bottom of that right here.

Can you run AC Mirage on Steam Deck?

First of all, heading over to the AC Mirage system requirements is a good way of understanding whether it will run on Steam Deck or not. Right now, things don’t too amazing for the humble Steam Deck, but it could just scrape by.

Although not being a strict 1:1 comparison, the Steam Deck GPU equivalent is roughly around that of a GTX 1050, while the minimum specs for AC Mirage at 1080p 30 FPS mention a GTX 1060, so you’re cutting it close. The good news is that the Steam Deck runs at a native 1280 x 800 screen resolution instead of full 1080p, so there is a good chance the game will run around the 30 FPS range. Add in extra functionality such as AMD FSR to boost your frames, and it could be a nice handheld experience.

The next thing to answer for though is compatibility – see below.

Is Assassin’s Creed Mirage Steam Deck compatible?

One important thing to understand is that Assassin’s Creed Mirage will not be coming to the Steam store upon launch. As a Ubisoft title, it will be for sale on Ubisoft Connect – though it will be featured on the Epic Games Store as well. That means you won’t be able to easily access the game on Steam Deck through your Steam Library, though you can launch other game launchers on the Deck via desktop mode. This is thanks to Valve’s Proton compatibility layer which allows Windows programs & games to run on the Deck’s Linux-based operating system. However, not every single game works flawlessly with this method, and the Ubisoft Connect launcher could also be another barrier to entry.

Since there is no Steam store page, there is no official Steam Deck compatibility. The official Steam Deck website has no mention of verified or playable status for AC Mirage just yet as the game hasn’t been checked by Valve.

So in summary, the Steam Deck itself may just about have the capacity to run the game on lower settings, but the compatibility with different launchers may just hold it back. You may be better off opting for a gaming laptop for AC Mirage instead, though time will tell.
