Are you wondering if Baldur’s Gate 3 is like Divinity Original Sin 2? Both RPGs are created by Larian Studios. Fans of the Divinity series have probably realized from trailers that the combat systems of the two games look pretty similar.

Baldur’s Gate 3 was inspired by Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) Fifth Edition and therefore uses some pretty similar mechanics to the popular TTRPG such as dice rolls, dexterity saves, and more. When you start up the game, you are even greeted by many races and classes in the character creator based on the D&D world.

Pick up your 20-sided die and get ready for combat. Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released soon and there is still much to cover about the game. Are you ready to go on some D&D adventures like in past Larian Studios games? Is Baldur’s Gate 3 like Divinity Original Sin 2?

Are Baldur’s Gate 3 and Divinity Original Sin 2 similar?

Baldur’s Gate 3 and Divinity Original Sin 2 are very similar games. Baldur’s Gate 3 takes many aspects of Divinity Original Sin and improves upon them. Much of the elements of the game were improved and expanded upon with additional D&D features added.

For starters, both games use a similar turn-based combat system that lets you move the player character and companions around an open environment to challenge enemies. The main difference between these combat systems is that Baldur’s Gate 3, is more D&D inspired and uses dice rolls to determine attacks and checks.

Unlike Divinity, Baldur’s Gate 3 uses an action system that gives you the ability to spend action points on various types of actions such as standard actions and bonus actions. Divinity uses action points but doesn’t break up what each action type is.

The type of combat in Baldur’s Gate 3 offers more tactical depth. Similar to D&D, the game also features a character sheet and stat threshold system that is very similar to D&D 5E.

Both games are very similar in other aspects such as character dialogue, companion interactions, and even art style. Throughout both games, you can perform actions that your companions can agree and disagree with. You can even commit evil acts that others might find repulsive.

Once again, Baldur’s Gate 3 takes everything from Divinity Original Sin 2 and improves upon it in a way that sets it apart from the other franchise from the development studio.
