If you’re still running some older hardware and want to enjoy the new game, then you’re going to be keen on it if you can. That’s why we see can a GTX 1080 Ti run Alan Wake 2, and from what we’re seeing in the benchmarks and requirements, it’s not looking good.
The GTX 1080 Ti is a plenty strong graphics card for its time. The top Pascal card, beaten out by the Titan at the time, is still a strong contender. It might not be the top contender in the Steam Hardware survey but it presents a popular generation still. So does it hold up to modern AAA titles?
GTX 1080 Ti performance and Alan Wake 2 GPU requirements
Well technically the GTX 1080 Ti can indeed run the game but not well. TechPowerUps benchmarks show that it is possible to play the game but the framerate isn’t too great. With the actual framerate dropping down to just an average of 16 FPS at max settings with no upscaling or ray tracing.
That is not too surprising, as the Alan Wake 2 system requirements are quite demanding. Requiring more recent advancements with the minimum asking for an RTX 2060 or RX 6600, those older might find some despair of being kicked out from the modern gaming community. The primary reason for this is the requirement for mesh shaders. As TechPowerUp noted, the game uses it for rendering, and GPUs below the recommendation don’t have it leading to such bad performance.
With such stunning graphics and plenty of graphical features, it’s no surprise the requirement is so high. It doesn’t suffer as many optimization woes as Cities Skylines 2, but it went for looks rather than performance. It does offer up DLSS and FSR to improve what you can achieve. This is what you have to rely on for your GTX 1080 Ti, to improve the performance at the cost of quality as at 1080p it will be even more obvious. In that case, you’re more likely to be looking at a good upgrade for some improved performance and looks.
