Survival would be made a lot easier if somehow we could just pop out of our bodies and look over the wall to see if there’s any mutants on the other side. Ah! That’s where something like 3rd person points of view would come in handy. But can you play Sons of the Forest in 3rd person?
Short answer, unfortunately, is no. You cannot currently play Sons of the Forest in 3rd person. However, is it necessarily a bad thing?

3rd Person is not available in Sons of the Forest
Sons of the Forest is a survival game in which you can invest many hours in just constructing a base, let alone continuing the story. There’s a level of immersion and tension that comes with first person is something we firmly believe that is heavily embedded within this story.
Whether it be crafting, exploring, combat, or just general survival, the first person perspective perspective of the game lends itself to this style of gameplay. Especially considering the horror elements too.
Third person is excellent for puzzle-solving and exploration, granted, as well as anticipated what’s around that next corner. However, for the intent and purpose of a survival horror like Sons of the Forest, the magic might be lost.
A member of Steam community asked in a thread “is there third person view in this game?”, to which the reply was no. One player said “As much as i prefer third person i dont think itd work well in a game like this.”
Will 3rd person be in Sons of the Forest?
As we know, Sons of the Forest is scheduled to remain in early access for around 6-8 months from the early release. In this time, who knows what might be implemented. VR? Creative Mode? It’s difficult to say at this time, unfortunately.

3rd person mod for Sons of the Forest
Its entirely possible that a mod for 3rd person gameplay will be available and easily accessible further down the line. In fact, we’ve found a YouTube video which shows a mod in it’s infancy. It will be exciting to see how this (or any other similar mod) develops as time goes on.
Similar mods were developed for it’s predecessor, The Forest. For some people, this is more than a preference – it’s an accessibility option. Especially for people that suffer with motion sickness or other sort of dizziness when playing in a first person camera for too long.
