Wondering how the ranks and rating system works in CS2? With the release of Counter-Strike 2 comes a brand new competitive experience for gamers to jump into, and it can be a lot to take in.

Competitive modes have always been a staple in the CS series, and CS2 shows no signs of ending this tradition. There are tons of game modes to take part in, and the ranking system allows you to know where you stand on the global leaderboards. Looking for an explanation of the CS2 ranks and rating system? You’ve come to the right place.

All Ranks in CS2

The ranks system in CS2 shows you your skill level in the game, and each player is given a rank determined by their performance. There are seven ranks in the game, each using a visible ELO number:

  • 0-4,999 – Grey
  • 5,000-9,999 – Light Blue
  • 10,000-14,999 – Blue
  • 15,000-19,999 – Purple
  • 20,000-24,999 – Pink
  • 25,000-29,999 – Red
  • 30,000+ – Yellow/Gold

This is a bit different from CS:GO’s system of naming each rank, from Silver all the way to Global Elite. However, the new ranks work incredibly similarly – it’s just named differently.

You will first receive your rank after 10 games of placement matches, and then from there whether you rank up or down depends on game wins and losses. Make sure to fix stuttering before jumping in or risk losing! This can happen even with the best GPU.

Rating system in CS2

The CS rating system is, as said before, similar to CS:GO. Your ELO number determines where you are on the leaderboards, whether it’s just with your friends list or the global leaderboards. You can also filter leaderboards by specific regions, like Asia, Europe, Australia, Africa, North America, and South America.

How to rank up in CS2 Premier Mode

Premier Mode is the ultimate competitive mode for CS2, and it’s where the top players will be. After meeting the requirements to play, you can start playing the mode and ranking up.

For Premier Mode and other matchmaking, the only thing you need to be concerned about for ranking up is whether you are winning games. The more games you win, the higher your rank will be. If you get on winning streaks, your ELO gain will increase. However, the same is true of losing streaks. If you lose many times in a row, your ELO loss will exponentially decrease.

You can also have ranks on a specific map in Premier Mode. This is helpful as Premier Mode uses a pick and ban system, where maps are banned by each team back and forth until one is left.

Competitive mode is just one of the game modes you can enjoy in CS2. However, it’s the best place to rank and get ahead in the rating system.
