Unfortunately, you will have to create a new seasonal character for each season of Diablo 4, starting from when the first season starts. While you can continue playing with your old character, you must create a new one to enjoy seasonal content such as the new questline, mechanics, battle pass, rewards, and more.
This was confirmed by Rog Fergusson on Twitter, where he claimed that a new character will be needed to take part in “seasonal questline, mechanics, season journey, and battle pass.” While players who are new to the series will find this a bit shocking, veteran Diablo players already saw this coming in the next installment of the Diablo franchise.
For instance, Diablo 3 featured a similar system where players had to create a new character every time a new season arrived. In other words, they had to start from scratch. Without doing it, they were unable to access the new content. It was only obvious that Blizzard was going to do the same with Diablo 4.
Now, while Diablo veterans will have no problem with this, a lot of new players might not decide to create a new character for the sake of enjoying the seasonal content. After all, it takes a lot of hard work to level up a character, and most fans will not appreciate seeing their efforts going to waste at the end of each season.
Diablo 4 managed to break Blizzard’s sales records, so a lot of new players have joined the franchise. The game’s max level cap is 100, for which you need tons of XP. Therefore, we’ll be seeing plenty of feedback in the coming months, and the developers might change the system if most of the gamers on PC and consoles are unhappy with it.
