Blizzard is finally giving us the first season of Diablo IV, the Season of the Malignant, and fans are eager to start their season journey. The wait for the first season has been anticipated since the game was released in June, and fans are finally able to begin their seasonal journey.

Diablo 4 – Can you preload Season 1?
Yes, you can preload the new season of Diablo IV with the pre-season patch that launched on Wednesday, July 18. By getting this update installed, your copy of Diablo IV will be good to go as soon as the Season of the Malignant begins. This information is courtesy of the developer livestream Blizzard gave.
The 8.84 GB patch automatically updates your game as soon as it’s released, but if it didn’t, all you need to do to preload the season is follow these instructions after July 18 when the patch goes live:
- Launch Battle.net
- Navigate to Diablo IV from the all games page
- Select download by clicking the Update icon
- Let the patch install
This patch was made available on Tuesday, July 18 at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 6pm BST / 7pm CEST for all fans to be ready to go when the season begins on Thursday. While there is no early access for the season, this patch will let everyone be ready at the exact Diablo IV Season One start time.
Downloading the patch will have it ready to go when the season content is turned on. This patch update is free for all players on both PC and consoles including Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 will get all the Season One content installed and ready to go when the season begins.
The pre-season patch update is also available regardless of what edition of the game you have, so if you have the Ultimate Edition of Diablo IV, the Digital Deluxe, or the base game version, you will be able to download this at the same time.
The season is packed full of content, so it’s a good idea to get it installed quickly so you don’t have to wait around on the date of release and miss out on getting a head start while you download the large file size.

What can I expect in Season 1 of Diablo 4?
Diablo IV’s Season of the Malignant will feature a brand new questline following the defeat of Lilith, where a corruption known as the Malignance is spreading among both monsters and humans in Sanctuary. Cormond, a former priest of the Cathedral of Light, is trying to stop it, but he’s going to need your help.
You’ll spend the season collecting Malignant Hearts from fallen Malignant Monster enemies, items that work like gems that you can socket into gear for more strength and access to the new Malignant Powers as you progress and fight through dungeons and Malignant Tunnels.
There will be a battle pass system, with both a free tier and Premium battle pass tiers, where you can unlock exclusive cosmetics and earn Smoldering Ashes to unlock season blessings and other rewards. These rewards should be at the top of the list that you want to complete, as these cosmetics and loot are exclusive.
Regardless of where you are in the world, the United States, Europe, Australia, on the East Coast, or West Coast, you’ll be able to preload Season One of Diablo IV and be ready to play the first season of the latest Diablo game.
