It’s just over two months until we get to play FIFA 23 for the first time. We have seen both versions of the game and what we can get in each edition.

Now comes the question: which version is best for you?

FIFA 23: Ultimate Edition

FIFA 23: Ultimate Edition will set you back £89.99 but it does come with a lot of extra features when compared to FIFA23: Standard Edition.

Those extras are listed below:

  • LIMITED TIME ONLY: FIFA World Cup FUT Heroes Player Item
  • 3 days early access
  • Dual entitlement
  • Ones to watch player item
  • 4600 FIFA points
  • Team of The Week 1 player item
  • Kylian Mbappe loan item for 5 FIFA Ultimate Team matches
  • FUT Ambassador loan player pick (choose between Davies, Son, and Vinicius Jr) for 3 FIFA Ultimate Team matches
  • Career Mode homegrown talent

As you can probably see, a majority of these extras are related to Ultimate Team.

So if you are a big Ultimate Team player, there will definitely be value in the head start the Ultimate Edition will give you.

You receive a few special players, that could in theory carry you for quite some time, especially if they are really good. While the FIFA Points will go a long way in getting you some extra packs early on, to help with SBC’s and general squad building.

The other major benefit of FIFA 23: Ultimate Edition is the 72 hours of Early Access you gain by pre-ordering it. Again, this will be a great way to get a bit of a head start on your Ultimate Team, or if you’re really desperate to get started on a Career Mode, then this could be a great option for you.

The major downside with the Ultimate Edition of the game, is if you don’t really play Ultimate Team it’s not worth it.

There is one benefit if you play Career Mode, and that’s the Homegrown Talent. It’s hardly worth the extra money, especially because you can get this bonus by just pre-ordering FIFA 23: Standard Edition.

FIFA 23: Standard Edition

The Standard Edition of the game, if you pre-order it, will include:

  • Team of The Week 1 player item
  • Kylian Mbappe loan item for 5 FIFA Ultimate Team matches
  • FUT Ambassador loan player pick (choose between Davies, Son, and Vinicius Jr) for 3 FIFA Ultimate Team matches
  • Career Mode homegrown talent

If you’re a next-gen player it will cost £69.99, or if you’re on the previous generation of consoles, it’s £59.99.

If you don’t pre-order the game you won’t get any of the above bonuses, buying the game day one will just give you access to FIFA 23.

Again, a majority of the bonuses for pre-ordering the game relate to Ultimate Team.

Ultimate Team is comfortably FIFA’s most popular game mode, all of the bonuses and extras will always be geared towards the people who play this mode.

The goal is to try and get a head-start on the competition, and FIFA23: Ultimate Edition is certainly one way of doing it, but Ultimate Team always relies on an element of luck, so it isn’t guaranteed.

If Ultimate Team isn’t for you, then it’s hard to recommend shelling out that extra money on the game as you won’t feel the full benefit.

Which version of the game you purchase will be dictated by how into Ultimate Team you are and if you really want the head start it can give you. If not, if you’re a Career Mode player, then the Standard Edition of the game is all that you need.
