Fortnite: How to change lobby background

It is possible to change a Fortnite background, but this process cannot be done on every single system at the moment.

Epic Games has released many fantastic Fortnite backgrounds over the past few years. Each season brings a new lobby background, as well as certain events. Unfortunately, it is not possible to change a background through in-game settings, which is something many players would like to do.

Lobby backgrounds would be great as a new type of cosmetic item. In the meantime, however, players can use a simple cache trick to change the lobby design. This article will provide a simple step-by-step guide on how you can have a different Fortnite background.

Please keep in mind that the process is possible only on PCs. However, map creators will soon be able to create custom backgrounds for their maps on every system.

Change your Fortnite background in a few simple steps

If you enjoyed a Fortnite background from a specific season or event, you can now apply it to Chapter 4 – Season 4. To perform this process, all you need is image editing software and a few minutes of your time.

You will create a new lobby image to replace the existing one. It’s important to note that you will simply edit the video game’s cache with this process. In other words, you will not change any essential game data, and therefore there is no risk of getting banned.

To change a Fortnite background, here are the steps you need to take:

• Find a lobby background you like
• Resize it to 2048×1024 pixels
• Save it as a PNG
• Open the following directory: Users\UserName\AppData\Local\FortniteGame\Saved\PersistentDownloadDir\CMS\Files\C28FF1DE0C661DAF01E118A30B3F21B897A7A6E2
• Find the current lobby image and copy its name
• Rename your PNG file to the name of the current background
• Paste the new Fortnite background in the folder, replacing the old one

After you finish all of these steps, your new Fortnite background will be active the next time you start the game. However, keep in mind that you will have to replace it every time you update the video game.

Is it possible to change the lobby background on consoles?

Unfortunately, you cannot currently change a Fortnite lobby background on PlayStation or Xbox. However, Epic Games plans to allow Creative map creators to choose their own lobby backgrounds whenever someone selects their maps.

This feature is planned to be released by the end of the year and will be available on all systems.
