Fans have been waiting for the sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn for years and Guerilla Games is finally out with a sequel. If you are just getting started with Horizon Forbidden West, here are 10 tips you need to help you get started with the game.

1. Focus on Side Content

The side quests in Horizon Zero Dawn were far from engaging except for a few. However, Guerilla Games has taken a huge leap forward and has made optional missions extremely fun and rewarding. You should definitely check out all of the side quests as they can offer you more insight into the story or massive upgrades.

2. Get A Mount 

As soon as you get access to machine hacking skills, you should get a mount as quickly as possible to traverse through the map. You can also summon your mount in any location to quickly get out of danger.

3. Use Fast Travel

Remember, you can fast travel to any point on the map as long as you unlock a nearby campfire. It can save you hours of gameplay compared to riding a mount.

4. Don’t Buy Everything

While a lot of merchants might entice you with amazing gear, do not buy everything that you see. Make sure you focus on upgrading your gear over buying new equipment as there are plenty of legendary earnable armor sets which you can get for free.

5. Upgrade Your Skill Tree

Spend time on the skill tree and upgrade your character based on your playstyle. There is no “perfect” build and you should focus on what suits your playstyle the most.

6. Talk to NPCs

A lot of NPCs can unlock hidden quests or give you items if you just talk to them. Having a quick chat with people around you can be very rewarding in Horizon Forbidden West.

7. Use Tutorial Notes

If you missed some of the pop-ups that show up at the start of the game during the introductory scenes, you can always access the Tutorial Notes to learn more about the in-game mechanics.

8. Use Your Focus

You should use your Focus as much as possible to know enemy weaknesses, see travel paths of beasts and find your way around tricky challenges.

9. Explore As Much As Possible

Do not get too fixated on the story and explore the world as much as possible. There is plenty to discover and you will find secrets in every part of the map.

10. Stock Up On Supplies

Make sure that you have enough materials at all times to craft potions and arrows. The last thing you want is to end up in a situation where you don’t have ammo to take on a beast.
